"I loved playing this Maharashtrian character," Kajol says, referring to her character Savitribai in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior.

"To me, having grown up with my grandmother and my great grandmother and seen them like this, it was almost like reliving a part of my own history.''

Kajol's grandmother is Shobhna Samarth, a stalwart of Marathi cinema, and her mother, of course, is Tanuja.

The actress will be seen wearing the traditional Maharashtrian attire 'Nauvari' for the film.

"I felt like I was playing dress-up with my mother's clothes and in a grown up way almost playing her in the film," Kajol adds. "I absolutely loved it. If I have my way, I will one day wear the Nauvari sari on the red carpet as well. It's just too sexy not to wear it. There is a certain body language in a sari and a Nauvari makes you feel all woman."

The film will be released in Marathi as well, and the trailer will be launched on December 10.

Director Om Raut reveals, "It will be a nice tribute to showcase a Marathi film about a warrior in 3D. Capturing the dialect and cultural nuances was important and we have ensured that the beauty of the language is not lost."

Tanhaji - The Unsung Warrior stars Ajay Devgn in the title role, and will release on January 10.
