'Great Grand Masti belongs to a super successful franchise and are Hindi cinema's best and most loved films.'
'This film is much more on the naughtier, horror and comedy side.'
Great Grand Masti heroine Urvashi Rautela discusses her latest film.
Urvashi Rautela is just three films old (with Singh Saab The Great, Sanam Re and now, Great Grand Masti) in Bollywood, and she thinks the going hasn't been all that tough.
She is happy with the way her career is shaping up, "but not satisfied."
She's made three great friends in her Great Grand Masti co-stars, Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani.
Urvashi tells Jahnavi Patel/ Rediff.com how she much masti she had on the film, and much more.
Was acting something you always wanted to do?
I come from a family of doctors and engineers, so this was definitely not something I had thought of.
Since childhood, I have wanted to become Miss Universe India, and I did. I am so grateful to God for that.
It (acting) happened by accident, but now it's my biggest passion. I love acting.
After Singh Saab The Great, this is your second Hindi film and it is an adult comedy. Were you sceptical about taking it up?
First of all, it's a super successful franchise and are Hindi cinema's best and most loved films. So it was an honour for me.
This time, it is even greater and grander. I play a character that is challenging and demanding. I play like a solo heroine opposite three guys.
It was challenging because I got to do action, comedy and romance.
When you get such an amazing opportunity, I don't see any reason not to do it.
Do you fear being slotted into sexy roles?
Till now, I haven't been typecast.
All the directors and producers, who have seen me, feel I look good in Indian and western roles.
What was your family's reaction when you told them about Great Grand Masti?
I tell everything to my parents.
They have seen Masti and really like it.
Great Grand Masti is definitely not like Grand Masti, it's much more on the naughtier, horror and comedy side.
They are very happy and aware of every single thing. They have met my amazing co-actors and director and producer, who are like family.
You are the addition to this Masti. What was it like working with Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani?
The experience was super amazing. I enjoyed every moment on the sets; it was so much fun.
I didn't feel that I was working. It's different from the other films.
I had the biggest masti on this set, I enjoyed it.
Salman has been a mentor for quite a few actors. There were reports of you being cast in his film, Sultan. How is your equation with him?
I was at Salman Khan's 50th birthday party.
He has supported my work, and had messaged me: 'Urvashi, I haven't seen the film but I have been hearing great things that you were effortless in Sanam Re'.
That was the biggest compliment for me ever.
As an actor, you have to be effortless and he called me that so I was really happy.
How difficult is it to sustain a career in Bollywood?
I have a very schoolish approach to acting. I like to do my homework, know more about the character and study it. It's all about the craft.
The titles that I have won are like an added bonus in my career but it's my craft that will help me to become the most sort-after actor.
Celebrities tend to get judged for everything they do. How do you feel about that?
That is something that shouldn't happen. You are a public figure and people follow you all the time and get inspired.
There are a lot of positive sides (to being a celebrity) and a little bit of this side.
Yes, you are judged all the time, and I am ready for it. It's okay, judge me.
You have done a music video Love Dose with Honey Singh. Would you like to do more in the future?
I have also done an international music video which was directed by a Hollywood director, Ben Peters.
Which actors/ directors would you like to work with?
Induji, my director (Indra Kumar), was one of my dream directors and I have worked with him now.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Imtiaz Ali, Rajkumar Hirani, Ayan Mukerji, Karan Johar, Rakesh Omprakash Mehra and Anurag Kashyap are the others.
The actors are Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik is my favourite.
Have you made friends in Bollywood?
My friends in Bollywood are my three Masti guys, Riteish, Vivek and Aftab.
