Halle Berry accepting the 2002 Best Actress Award for her role in Monster's Ball.

She wept. She emoted. She speechified. In short, she did everything she did not do in a marvellously understated performance in the movie.

But she also had a hand in Adrien Brody's Best Actor (for The Pianist) acceptance, which may qualify as one of the best acceptances in the longish history of the Academy Awards.

Oscar hosts: Deja vu again

When are we going to see a new host for the Academy Awards? I mean, Billy Crystal? Again?

This year will make it the seventh time Crystal's been the host of the Oscars. Whoopi Goldberg's hosted four times, Steve Martin twice.

If the past is anything to go by, Crystal's seven is no big thing: Bob Hope hosted the Oscars 17 times. To put that astonishing number into perspective, imagine Crystal doing his number for the next decade or more.

Analyse that and you may end up with repetitive motion syndrome.
