The Khamoshiyan poster'I take interest in all my films but I took special interest in Khamoshiyan.'

Mahesh Bhatt tells us why.

Mahesh Bhatt wants to prove a point. And he wants to do it with his latest production, Khamoshiyan.

An erotic supernatural thriller, Khamoshiyan stars Gurmeet Choudhary, Ali Fazal and Sapna Pabbi, and it will release on January 30.

In an exclusive chat with Sonil Dedhia/ Rediff.com, Bhatt tells why his new film is different from other supernatural thrillers made till date.

You have a written a beautiful line in the film. What was your inspiration behind it?

The gaze of the filmmaker with Khamoshiyan is not only to titillate the body but to have a lasting impact on the souls and the consciousness of the people.

In the darkest areas of the human heart, we find unimaginable wealth and that can only be found by those who have the courage to dive fearlessly into their darkness.

In the film, you will witness a journey of the characters going into the darkness of their hearts, where they find some bizarre truths. Only by negotiating that darkness and confronting the demons can they reach the light.

Tell us about Sapna Pabbi, who is making her debut in the film.

Sapna is a fascinating girl.

When she came for the auditions, she had that silence which we were hoping to excavate. There has to be some mystery and some women have that. Like Sharon Stone, Bipasha Basu, and now Sapna.

Did you always want to cast a newcomer in the lead role?

We at Vishesh Films are certain that the audience embraces a new actor more generously than an established one because they want to discover who this new person is.

If the audience finds any talent in the newcomer, they gave the kind of ovation that an established actor wouldn’t get.

Also, a new actor is raring to make a mark and that adds that extra fuel for a filmmaker to ride on.

The film is an erotic supernatural thriller, and we see a lot of films in this genre.

Vishesh Films crafted the genre of erotic supernatural thriller at the beginning of the 21st century with Raaz. The romantic triangular quotient, which you saw in Raaz, has not been replicated by us in Raaz 2 or Raaz 3. Khamoshiyaan is in a genre that is close to Raaz.

We wanted to make a film in a genre that the audience can identify with. I am leaving it up to the audience whether they think this film is different from our previous films in the same genre.

Music has always been an essential part of your films.

The music of Khamoshiyan has already become successful. We have just released the title track and have received such an amazing response for it.

The film has a great story and amazing performances. I can smell the fragrance of super success even before the film is released.

Watch the trailer of Khamoshiyan

You are taking a keen interest in promoting the film. You were also involved in the making of the trailer. Any particular reason for it?

I take interest in all my films but I took special interest in Khamoshiyan. In a time when people are making expensive and star-studded films, we are trying to prove a point that we can make films with newcomers and make them work. The success of Aashiqui 2 and Citylights has proved that we are capable of that.

I want to prove that a film like Khamoshiyan with rank newcomers and a new director can soar high at the box office.
