'With each film, whether it’s good or bad, you learn different things.'
'The big question is, do I sit at home and do nothing and wait for that perfect movie, perfect director, perfect screenplay and perfect production house, or do I hustle and work every single day?'
Sunny Leone says it right.
Sunny Leone returns as the host of MTV’s Splitsvilla 8, and she’s delighted!
"I had so much fun,” she gushes. “The contestants are amazing. Itna pagal hai bachay (the kids are crazy). That is what it makes it interesting.
“It’s a completely different experience, as (co-host) Ranvijay Singh's personality is loud, funny, and he is energetic. It is easy to work with him. We worked hard, shot for a long time in Goa but had lots of fun as well,” she says.
She dismisses questions about husband Daniel Webber feeling jealous about Ranvijay: “He (Ranvijay) is married and has a beautiful wife. I have a great relationship with both of them. His wife Priyanka (Vohra) is from the US. We chat during dinner sometimes. My husband is a secure man. I don’t think he will ever feel insecure about me,” she says.
The garrulous starlet Rakhi Sawant had said she wanted to deport Sunny back from where she came because Sunny was 'forcing Indian girls to wear skimpy outfits'! Celina Jaitley, on the other hand, had accused Sunny and Daniel Webber of messing up her penthouse which they had rented.
Sunny shrugs both of them off.
"These are useless and baseless comments. It is unprofessional. You would never see an actor or actress speak badly in the way they have,” she says.
“It’s their prerogative. I don’t care about it. I am here to do good work and focus on that,” Sunny replies.
Does she think that celebrities are soft targets?
“Yes, celebrities are always soft targets. The problem is that other people gain publicity by using somebody’s name. It’s sad,” she says.
Sunny’s husband Daniel Weber is making his Bollywood debut with Dangerous Husna. Has she given him any tips?
“The most I can do is support him. Even if I am watching a shot, he has to do things instinctively, on his own, or what the director wants him to do. If I interfere, he will get confused."
She admits she is still very young in the Hindi film industry, she says. “I see myself as just trying to walk. I am here to work very hard. I listen. I’ve always wanted to be an actress.
“It’s important that each day I get better. I can’t judge myself; it’s for the audience to judge me."
Her last film Kuch Kuch Locha Hai didn’t do well. Has that made her more careful about the films she chooses?
“With each film, whether it’s good or bad, you learn different things.
“The big question is, do I sit at home and do nothing and wait for that perfect movie, perfect director, perfect screenplay and perfect production house, or do I hustle and work every single day? Whatever happens dekha jaye. After analysing certain things and feeling upset, things die down.
“Then it comes down to, am I working every day? Yes.
“Am I working every day for the next few years? Again, yes. This is what I want."
Of course, negative criticism whether of herself or her films, affects her.
“I am a human being, so of course I get hurt. But I am strong. I am a fighter. I never give up. I will get back on my feet,” she says with admirable confidence.
Spiltsvilla 8 will go on air from July 4, at 7 pm, on MTV.
