Hang on, what just happened?
A Salman Khan Eid release is an event more circus than cinematic, a braindead piece of trash livened up only by the fact that Khan pulls off cornballery with more gusto than anyone else.
It’s just that Kick -- this year’s Eid release and obviously inevitable superhit -- looks rather more interesting than any of those movies, from a glance.
A directorial debut for longtime moneyspinning producer Sajid Nadiadwala, Kick is another Bhai actioner, except here he seems to be some kind of bicycling vigilante (bhaigilante?) who wears the kind of mask Krrish would wear if he were a wrestler.
And his name is Devil. (First name Dare, presumably.)
It all sounds loony but it all looks quite breezy and enjoyable, with fun stunts and standard-issue Salman nonsense, but this time around there are at least two genuinely good lines of dialogue and a couple of other characters -- played by Randeep Hooda and, surprise-surprise, Nawazuddin Siddiqui -- who look like they might have more to do in this film than play fools or foils.
So then... will Kick be the masala but cool entertainer we all wished Dhoom 3 would be?
Eid will tell.
