January has quite a few mega Malayalam releases coming up.

We take a look: 

 

Action Hero Biju

Director: Abrid Shine
Cast: Nivin Pauly, Anu Emmanuel

Malayalam cinema's hottest rising star Nivin Pauly did not have any new releases during the second half of 2015.

In Action Hero Biju, he teams up with 1983 director Abrid Shine.

Nivin is playing a police officer named Biju Paulose. Anu Emmanuel, who played Jayaram’s daughter in Swapna Sanchari, makes her debut as the heroine.

 

Puthiya Niyamam

Puthiya Niyamam

Director: A K Sajan
Cast: Mammootty, Nayantara

Mammootty plays a lawyer named Louis Pothen in A K Sajan’s Puthiya Niyamam. Nayantara plays his wife, Vasuki.

The film was planned as a Christmas release but it got pushed ahead.

Mammootty and Nayantara had teamed up last year in the hit, Bhaskar The Rascal. Will they repeat the success with Puthiya Niyamam?

 

Paavada

Cast: Prithviraj, Mia

Prithviraj plays a drunk named Joy in G Marthandan’s Paavada. His life changes after he meets Babu Joseph, an English professor played by Anoop Menon.

Prithviraj ruled the box office with four hits last year. Let's see what his fortune is this year.

 

Monsoon Mangoes

Cast: Fahadh Faasil, Aiswarya Menon

Last year wasn't good for Fahadh Faasil, as his films failed to set the cash registers ringing.

Monsoon Mangoes, directed by Akkara Kazhchakal fame Abi Varghese, has been shot extensively in the United States and the film has earned some attention after the launch of its trailer.

 

Maalgudi Days

Malgudi Days still

Director: Vishakh, Vivek, Vinod
Cast: Anoop Menon, Bhama

In Maalgudi Days, directed by siblings Vishakh-Vivek-Vinod, Anoop Menon plays a painter named Zephan. Bhama plays the heroine.

The story is inspired from some real events and has been shot in the picturesque Munnar.
