Bollywood's Top 15 Summer Hits

Summer is usually a good time to release movies, in India and abroad.

Bollywood has a good spread of films lined up this year, like Gabbar Is Back, Bombay Velvet, Dil Dhadakne Do and Baijaan Bhaijaan.

Movies have always fared well at the box office during this time.

Here's looking at the summer hits through the years.

 

Holiday (2014)

Before Baby, Akshay Kumar had featured in the serious Holiday

A plot-driven film in which Akshay unearths terrorists, Holiday was directed by Ghajini director A R Murugadoss.

Holiday was a success at the box office across the country.

Ek Villain (2014)

Siddharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor in Ek Villain

No one expected the thundering opening of Ek Villain.

The soundtrack was a big hit too, thanks to songs like Galliyan. Aggressive marketing by producer Ekta Kapoor helped.

Audiences loved this Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor starrer.

Kick (2014)

Jacqueline Fernandez and Salman Khan in Kick

Some films have blockbuster written all over them. Like Kick.

With Salman Khan in the film, producer-director Sajid Nadiadwala did not spare any expense in making sure that Kick was a huge success.

Raanjhanaa (2013)

Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in Raanjhanna

Director Aanand L Rai spun a bitter-sweet love triangle with Dhanush, Sonam Kapoor and Abhay Deol.

Despite its tragic ending, audiences loved the film. Music by A R Rahman was a huge success as well.

Farhan Akhtar in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag

Farhan Akhtar played the legendary sportsperson Milkha Singh in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, which was directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra.

The film may have been long, but it was classy and made a lot of bucks!

(2012)

His film with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, Rowdy Rathod, is one of Akki's biggest hits in recent times.

Rohit Shetty has rarely gone wrong with his films.

His film Bol Bachchan, an official remake of Amol Palekar's Golmaal, starred Ajay Devgn, Abhishek Bachchan and Asin, and was a laugh-riot. It was also a big hit.

One of Saif's best and biggest hits, Cocktail has some good music by Pritam as well.

Ready (2011)

Asin and Salman Khan in Ready

When Ready was released, it was panned by critics.

Audiences, though, were less critical, thanks to Salman Khan's presence.

It had a unique story that was complimented by unconventional narrative and music.

The film was a huge success at the multiplexes.

Before Cocktail, Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone, composer Pritam and director Imtiaz Ali, had success in the form of Love Aaj Kal.

Saif played a double role in this romantic drama. Audiences didn't mind the far from seamless performances, and the film did well.
