Sonam and Anil KapoorAnil Kapoor is one happy father but an unhappy son.

Overjoyed at the heartening opening of daughter Sonam's new film Mausam, Anil decided to throw a party on Sunday for his friends. But on Saturday, Anil's father, veteran producer Surinder Kapoor, passed awayNeedless to say, the party stood cancelled.

Says a source, "Anil was as excited as a schoolboy when the collections of Mausam for the first day came in. He suggested a celebration party for the film's opening, since he has never hosted a party for Sonam before. Everyone suggested that they wait until a clearer box office verdict on the film emerges post-weekend. But Anil wanted to celebrate right away."

Three guest lists were immediately planned -- for Anil's, Sonam's and Shahid Kapoor's guests -- since the excited father of the heroine insisted that Shahid too join the party as a host.

The death in the family has spread a pall of gloom over the Kapoor household. All celebration relating to Mausam or any other event will have to be set aside.

Apparently Anil has taken his father's death very badly.

Confirming the cancellation of the party, Mausam producer Sheetal Talwar says, "Yes, Anil was really excited about the opening of Mausam. He decided on a party. But I guess God had other plans. He was really close to his father, and just grateful that he saw Mausam release. All the wonderful reviews that Sonam got really made her grandfather proud. Surinderji used to say Sonam was a better actor than Anil. He was very proud of her."
