Manmohan Desai's multistarrer blockbuster, Amar Akbar Anthony, will now be remade in Bhojpuri.

It will be directed by Manish Jain, and produced by Rajesh Sharma under his banner, Show Man International.

The film will star some of Bhojpuri cinema's heavyweights -- actor-singer Manoj Tiwari 'Mridul' as Amar, Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirhu' as Akbar, and Sikandar Kharbanda as Anthony. Vipin Bahar will pen the lyrics, and Dhananjay Mishra will score the music.

"I'm excited to play this role because it was originally performed by Amitabh Bachchan. Also, I will have the opportunity to work with Dinesh and Manojji," Sikandar Kharbanda said.

The film's mahurat was held at Mumbai's suburban Fun Republic in Andheri, on August 18, and was well-attended by Bhojpuri and Bollywood celebrities.

"This is a big day for Bhojpuri cinema." said Manish Jain, director. When asked about the story, he replied that the lead characters would be the same but the story will be different from the original.

Manoj Tiwari's commanding presence held everyone's attention, as he serenaded the audience with a Bhojpuri number. He said he was proud to be a part of this great film and crew.
