Legendary actor Dharmendra’s younger brother Ajit Singh Deol passed away in a Mumbai hospital on October 23.
Ajit, who was a well-known actor in Punjabi films, is Abhay Deol's father.
He was especially attached to nephew Sunny Deol, who on hearing the tragic news, was inconsolable.
Dharmendra has been by his ailing brother’s bedside constantly, and broke down at his brother’s passing away.
Ajit Singh Deol acted in several Punjabi films and some Hindi films. He featured in the cast of nephew Bobby Deol’s debut film Barsaat.
"Dharmendra's brother Ajit Singh Deol was in the hospital for complications in the gall bladder surgery. Dharmendra was a caring brother and had been attending diligently to his brother. In addition, Dharmendra would visit (Shabana Azmi's mother) Shaukat Azmiji, who was in the bed next to his brother's in the ICU, recite poetry to her and have her recite Kaifi Azmi's poetry to him. He reminded her that he was a great admirer of Kaifisaab’s work. Dharmendra had worked with Shaukat Azmi in a film called Loafer decades ago," says a source.
