Why do you want to make films in Tamil first?
Because there is better work and a lot of experimentation happening in Tamil. It is a bigger challenge to succeed in Tamil than in Hindi as the filmmakers in Tamil are more daring now.
You see more innovative storylines here than in Hindi. My peers in this industry are so good that it is a huge challenge to make films against their work. But in Hindi, it is still more of stars, grandeur, money and glamour rather than the content.
What about films like Aamir, A Wednesday, Dev D, Mumbai Meri Jaan etc?
They are made for a niche audience while in Tamil, films like Kadhal, Subramaniapuram, Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu are made for the mass audience and they are successful. Our mainstream cinema is daring and there is a lot of experimentation taking place in its content.
And these films are successful not only in the multiplexes but even in the villages too. The experimentation in content and presentation is appreciated by all and sundry in Tamil Nadu.
But the mainstream in Hindi is dominated by stars. You need an Aamir Khan or Shah Rukh or Akshay Kumar to make a successful mainstream cinema. It is highly star-oriented.
This is the reason why I would like to make films in Tamil. If I make an experimental film in Tamil, it is seen by all kinds of people but in Hindi, the same will be seen only by a niche audience.
