I didn't have an option but to cast Emraan because we had decided that if I make a horror film, he would be in it. We would watch horror films together, and had decided this when Emraan was eight years old, and I was six. When I told him about this idea, he was game. I couldn't have got a better actor for this role. I liked him in Kalyug -- he really gets into the character.

I think Kangana is the best actress in the current lot -- not because she is in my film, but after seeing her performance in Life... In A Metro and Fashion.

In case of Adhyayan, I believe that working with newcomers will make me look and feel younger. It will help me look at things through a younger perspective. I am 27 and he is 20. The way we look at scenes or situations is different, and I like that freshness.

Moreover, it gives you a new experience. I know how to get work out of Emraan and Kangana because I have worked with them. But it is different with Adhyayan.

Have you watched his debut film, Haal-e-Dil?

No. I haven't watched the film and do not believe in selecting someone on basis of some performance. They could have done a good job in another film and not a good job in mine and vice versa. I do not conduct auditions or watch rushes of other films to get an idea of the actors. I meet the person and if I feel that he/she is my character, they are on.

I met Adhyayan, and saw that he spoke very naturally. I knew he would suit the role. There is a scene in the film, where he talks about religious beliefs and he said the dialogues so naturally.

How would rate Adhyayan's performance in the film?

Superb. I will feel like a mother, if his performance is appreciated. It is a director's job to make his actors perform.
