The week Kareena was born

Kareena Kapoor was born on September 21, 1980, to Randhir and Babita Kapoor. It's hard to imagine she made her debut a mere eight years ago, with Refugee, considering the enormous popularity she seems to enjoy today.

Apparently, she got her name from the book Anna Karenina. Why her family would ruin it by giving her the nickname Bebo, then, is hard to imagine. Interestingly, she was dissuaded from acting by her father, who believed celebrity marriages were hard to maintain. So, Kareena studied commerce in Mumbai, then did a three-month course in microcomputers at Harvard, then came back to study law at the Government Law College in Mumbai. Finally, realising she wasn't cut out for any of the above, she turned to an acting institute and worked towards a Bollywood debut instead.

A turning point in her career came with 2004's Chameli, which got her a Filmfare Special Performance Award. Dev in 2004 and Omkara in 2006 sealed her reputation as an actress with more than just a pretty face. By the time she won the Filmfare Best Actress Award for Jab We Met in 2007, she was among the industry's highest-paid stars.

What next? Only Kareena knows. We're sure it'll be something glamorous though.
