'I had to 'make down' rather than 'make up for the role'

How did you prepare for the role?

The director had given me an idea about how to prepare for the role. I had read all the books that he suggested. In fact, I had been reading Nandanar's children's stories ever since my younger days. I had also studied in detail about that period, the mannerisms and the society during those days.

As the character was looking thin, I had to cut down on my diet. The role required me to go for 'make down' rather than ‘make up’.

Are you happy with the way your role has come out on screen?

Every actor thinks he could have done better once the work is completed. I'm no different. Still, I am satisfied with what I have done in Adayalangal. I have put in sincere efforts into my character and I hope it has come out well.
