Bhootnath is directed by first-timer Vivek Sharma.
"This concept of Bhootnath came across my mind while chatting with a friend who is into the Art of Living course," explained Sharma. "We often questioned each other as to why people are God-fearing and not God-friendly. That is when I thought of making this film, as I wanted to change the perception of ghosts that people have in their minds."
Speaking about making a debut with Bachchan as his leading man, Sharma said, "I wanted Amitji for this character as I knew he would pull it off with ease. I could get him only because of my connection with B R Chopra, who is a very dear friend to Amitji. SRK and Juhi were my close friends."
