The box-office Midas

Spielberg's bread and butter has always been the absurd. High-paced action, other-worldly science fiction, those things that go bump in the night.

And it's following this formula that has seen him become the most commercially successful director of all time.

1993's Jurassic Park was Spielberg at his finest. The film, noted for pioneering computer-generated imagery, showed how when Man plays God, the results are often times disastrous.

During its release, the filmed grossed nearly $1 billion, the highest ever at that point in time. Spielberg's reputation as box-office Midas had been concretised.
