Telugu actor Rajasekhar, his actress-wife Jeevitha and their two daughters were attacked, allegedly by the enraged fans of superstar Chiranjeevi at Punjagutta, Hyderabad on Monday morning.

The attackers came in four cars and chased Rajasekhar's vehicle when the actor's family was on their way home from the railway station. Forcing Rajasekhar's car to a halt at Punjagutta crossroads, the protestors shouted slogans against the doctor-turned-actor for making critical comments against Chiranjeevi, and demanded an apology. They then pelted the car with stones and hit it with iron rods, damaging it and causing injury to Rajasekhar and his elder daughter, Sivani.

The Punjagutta police rushed Rajasekhar and his family members to Apollo Hospital at Jubilee Hills.

On a complaint filed by Rajasekhar's wife, the police registered a case under Sections 147, 148, 341, 324, 327 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code. They recorded Jeevitha's statement on the incident.

After attending a family function at Bhimavaram in West Godavari district on Sunday, Rajasekhar interacted with the media.

When newsmen asked him if he would join Chiranjeevi's political party, Rajasekhar replied, "I will not join his party. Chiru has no political experience."

Angered by the remarks, Chiranjeevi's fans rushed to the Bhimavaram railway station and tried to locate Rajasekhar's family who were leaving by the Narsapur Express. Later, past midnight, they made another unsuccessful attempt when the train arrived at Guntur.

When the train arrived at Secunderabad railway station in the early hours of Monday, Chiranjeevi's fans gathered there. On learning that Rajasekhar's family left for their home in a car, they got into four cars and chased them upto Punjagutta, where they attacked the actor's car.

Subsequently, Chiranjeevi and his brother-in-law and film producer Allu Aravind met with Rajasekhar and his family, and strongly condemned the incident. He also expressed regret to Rajasekhar's family for the unfortunate acts of his fans.
