Shatranj Ke Khilari (The Chess Players)
Directed by Satyajit Ray, this 1977 film was based on Munshi Premchand's short story.
The film, starring Richard Attenborough, Amjad Khan, Sanjeev Kumar, Saeed Jaffrey, David Abraham and Tom Alter, was set in 1856 and threw light on the life and customs of colonial India.
It was said that Ray was so impressed with Amitabh Bachchan that he decided to use his voice as commentary in the film since there was no suitable role for him.
