 Review: Juno
This is a fantastic movie, and even it's biggest perceived drawback seems like a backhanded compliment: the characters sound too clever to be real, they say of the Juno-crowd, where the leading lady and the people who make up her world speak exclusively in quips, often bitter and more than frequently loaded.
To this, I say -- to stripper-turned-blogger-turned-showy screenwriter Diablo Cody -- take a bow, Miss.
Because while it's true that this is the story of a young, clearly pretentious whippersnapper -- "Zeus had tons of ladies but I'm pretty sure Juno was his main girl. And, apparently, she was supposed to be super beautiful but really mean, kinda like Diana Ross," she immodestly explains the origins of her name -- she is clearly just a conflicted youngling trying to cope, and using verbs to overcompensate. This is, despite the delightfully unreal dialogue, a very human tale.
