Of Irish and Italian heritage, Assante's rather sinister good looks have bagged him 'baddie' roles, usually that of a mobster.

He has acted in The Mambo Kings opposite Antonio Banderas and the adaptation of Judge Dredd with Sylvester Stallone.

Arjun Rampal not only looks like Assante, he also seemed to follow in his footsteps in Om Shanti Om, where he played a villain.
