Earlier this month, came news that Jackman had been hand-picked to host the 81st annual Academy Awards on February 22. After years of sagging television ratings, the Academy has turned to Jackman to revitalise the ceremony's diminishing fortunes.
Usually, a comedian handles mic-duties on AA night. But the selection committee, after reviewing Jackman's work in the 2003-2005 Tony awards, became convinced that the hunky Aussie is the man for the job.
Now, we await Australia. The film launches in India on January 1. We already have reviews from Western critics, where the movie was released over the course of the past few weeks; and though they are somewhat mixed, the reception of Jackman's performance has been generally positive.
Will there be something in it for him? Perhaps an Academy Award, to go on the mantle alongside his Tony and Emmy?
