Vaaranam Aayiram is Gautham Vasudev Menon's tribute to his father. Expectations were very high and the film satisfied many filmgoers. But many others were put off by its length.

Though the filmmaker has to be applauded for making a film that is very different from the genre he is famous for, the film is Surya's show all the way.
