The Lord of the Rings trilogy
Peter Jackson must be one happy man.
The brain behind the trilogy -- he wrote, produced and directed the epic series -- The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003), has won critical acclaim plus financial success for his endeavours.
Based on the novel by J R R Tolkien, the films won a total of 17 Academy Awards plus praise for the cast and the innovative use of digital special effects.
The setting for the fictional world of the Middle Earth was Jackson's native place, New Zealand, where all the three films were shot.
The films trace the journey of young Hobbit Frodo Baggins and his quest to destroy the One Ring.
