The USP of Abhimaan wasn't Hrishikesh Mukherjee casting the newly married couple Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan to play reel life husband-wife. Instead, it was the sensitively told story of a married couple fighting growing distances owing to issues like male ego and rivalry.

S D Burman's songful helpings and the gentle chemistry between AB and his better half under Hrishida's masterful direction resulted in one of the finest films about marital relations in Hindi cinema.
