A good voice

Paul David Hewson took the name Bono as a teenager. But he could just have well have become Steinvic von Huyseman. Or Houseman.

Irish rock star, U2 frontman and humanitarian Bono hung out with a gang of friends in Dublin, where he grew up, who liked to give themselves imaginary names.

Houseman and Steinvic were some of the names Bono tried before settling on Bono taken from Bono Vox, a hearing aid store he passed every day on his way to school.

Actually, the story goes it was his friend who first dubbed him Bono Vox (Latin for a good voice) because he felt Bono sang so loudly that even the deaf could hear him.
