When I used to play football at the Mumbai district level, I would travel by train. After a point, I realised there was no money in the game. So I gave up. I gave my CET exams and did a course on business management. But football has always my love," John continues.
"It is sad that today, except Baichung Bhutia, people don't know the name of any other football player in India," he says. "Cricket is far ahead; I hope football will catch up after Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal, just like hockey caught up after Chak De! India," he jokes.
So does he still follow the game? "Yes, very religiously! Earlier, my favourite player was Ronaldinho. But now, it is this Barcelona player called Lionel Messi, from Argentina. Lionel will be the future football star. He is 19 years old and even football legend Maradona said that Lionel will be the future Maradona. Watch him play, it is a delight to see him dribbling the ball," John says.
