Amitabh Bachchan and Jiah Khan / Rani Mukerji in Nishabd and Black
Seems Big B has a thing for young girls. Amitabh plays a married man in his 60s, hopelessly in love with his best friend's wild teenaged daughter (Jiah Khan) in Nishabd.
Ram Gopal Varma's ode to Lolita drew a helpless, unfortunate picture of the Bachchan whereas Jiah came across as a needy albeit sharp child woman.
In contrast, what Big B and Rani Mukerji share in Black is a brief and tender kiss. It would be insulting to dub that romantic.
Even so, the 60 plus actor is clearly not afraid of taking up daring, unconventional roles that blatantly defy the existent social structure and mindsets. Ditto for his dramatically younger heroines.
Not bad, considering a decade ago, AB faced tremendous flak for romping on palace roof-tops with Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty in K C Bokadia's mindless action flick, Lal Badshah.
