The Vilasol resort, where we were put up, had a large room full of vintage crockery, old wooden furnishings and records. Art director Gautam Sen, who had worked with Prakash Jha earlier, got some black and white portraits of Rajat Kapoor, in a thick moustache and long hair, mounted on the wall.
"I have tried to do the sets, costumes, music in a subtle way so as to recreate that era, but also taking care not to let it overshadow the performances and the story," Sudhir said.
The scene being shot shows Rajat Kapoor telling Soha to be graceful in her movements. She listens to his instructions and does accordingly. She hopes to learn from the established actor and perfect her acting skills.
It is interesting to watch Soha play a shy character. She is anything but that in reality.
But it's Rajat Kapoor who was the darling on the sets. Whether it's the costume department or the assistants, all of them loved to hover around him. Ask him how he is so popular among women, and he jokes, "Is it working? I am just extending my casanova character in the film in real life."
