Nicole Kidman, 40
In the satirical dark comedy To Die For (1995) Kidman played the role of Suzanne Stone, an ambitious and manipulative news anchor. To Die For earned her a BAFTA award nomination and the Golden Globe.
Her performances in 1996's Portrait Of A Lady (based on the novel by Henry James) and the stage production The Blue Room also received critical praise. In 1999, Kidman starred opposite her husband in Eyes Wide Shut, Stanley Kubrick's controversial last film.
