When Zeppelin ruled the world
The Led Zeppelin story began with another band called The Yardbirds, where a young Jimmy Page first began to shine. A recording session led to Page meeting bassist-keyboardist John Paul Jones. A chance meeting with singer Plant led to the formation of a new group, made complete with the inclusion of Plant’s friend, John Bonham.
Legend has it that rock gods Keith Moon and John Entwistle -- of the band The Who -- suggested a group comprising themselves, Page and Jeff Beck would go down like a 'lead zeppelin'. The band liked the name, but eventually dropped the 'a' in 'Lead' to prevent Americans from pronouncing the name 'Leed Zeppelin.'
