Dil Toh Pagal Hai
Dil Toh Pagal Hai was my first film, and has a strange story.
I have many actors joining my class. Shah Rukh's wife Gauri was one of them. Shah Rukh would pick Gauri up and drop her to class, and that's how we struck a friendship.
It was because of him that Aditya Chopra offered me Dilwale Dulaniya Le Jayenge. But my dance was more western then, so the name itself made me feel that it was typical Bollywood film. So I refused it.
But I was approached again for Dil Toh Pagal Hai. Shah Rukh convinced me to take it up. I did the songs Le Gai Le Gai and Chak Dhoom Dhoom. I also did the dance Jugalbandi between Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, which is also called Dance of Envy.
Both the actresses were nervous and so was I. They were nervous because my style of dancing is very diferent and I was nervous because I was going to teach them how to dance!
Anyway, I had no problem on the sets and both the actresses were thorough professionals. Madhuri was good at dancing and the only thing she had to do was adjust to the timing since my dance was subtle and did not have jhatka matka moves.
Karisma, on the other hand, was very hardworking and ready to learn. Both complemented each other.
My favourite song is Chak Dhoom Dhoom. It took me three days to choreograph this song and all the kids featuring in the song got drenched (it was a rain sequence). Thank God none of them got sick!
I got a National award for Dil Toh Pagal Hai, which I'm very proud of.
