Simba (The Lion King)
The Lion King features one of the most heart-wrenching scenes in a cartoon film ever. When Simba loses his father, Mufasa, courtesy uncle Scar's foul play -- the latter allowing him to believe he's responsible, the whole theatre goes quiet.
Simba isn't mourning alone, so hard-hitting is the impact of this tragedy. It's as though you have formed protective feelings for this cuddly cub.
Whatever he does, you want to be a part of it. Whether it's his bouts of guilt, engaging friendship with Timon and Pumbaa, awww-dripping romance with Nala or struggle to avenge Scar, you are routing for the King of the Jungle.
