Gandhi My Father was completed much before Salaam-e-Ishq. We hardly met each other during Salaam-e-Ishq as our tracks were different.

Tell us about the film's premiere in South Africa.

It was pretty good but the sad part was that I could not get to meet Nelson Mandela. He was supposed to come for the premiere but because of his ill health, he could not make it. Only Anil Kapoor got an opportunity to meet him.

But the present president of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki, was there to see the film. He was there for the entire duration of the film, which is slightly over two hours. He liked the film a lot and wept too.
