'I love to be in a film that puts story and script above actors'

September 13, 2006
What are some of the films you are looking forward to?

I have just signed a film called Rock Star to be directed by Imitaz Ali. He is comparatively new to the industry. I like to work with new talents. They bring in a special touch to a film. They are not jaded and they want to make a mark. I feel challenged in the company of such directors.

Last year you were one of the most mobbed of the stars at the festival…

(Laughs). I am surprised many people -- and I am not speaking about Indians -- recognise me and know by my name.

The number of women who exchanged their e-mail addresses and mobile numbers with you last year must be amazing. What is Bipasha Basu saying to all this?

(Laughs) She is very much with me this time. We were coming out of the Four Seasons Hotel the other day and there was a big crowd waiting for an American movie star. But suddenly many people started screaming my name. I was surprised. I was thrilled. It was a different thing to be recognised at the premiere of Water but here I was seen coming out of a hotel.

You have been dating Bipasha for quite some time, isn't it?

It is around four years but both of us feel as if we have known each other for a long time.

What do you admire most in her?

Her simplicity. She is down to earth and yet she is very smart. And she is fully dedicated to whatever she takes up.

Are there plans for a wedding?

(Chuckles). We are working at it.
