How much do you actors know about the Hong Kong version of the film, Infernal Affairs?
I loved the Hong Kong version. I thought it was fantastic and I love those actors. But it's about such a different culture. Boston is a very different city from even any city here in America. So, it's a very specific film. The structure was used from the Hong Kong version, but the world that Bill built around it was very specific to Boston.
How was the experience working opposite Jack in this film?
I found him really committed to making the thing as believable and pushing the envelope as much as he could. He really pushed. I mean, there's a lot of stuff that he did that I'm sure didn't make the final version, because as he said, 'Look, I want to keep giving too much in all of these scenes, and then let Marty figure out the level that's right for his film.' And that was just really impressive, just to see how much he was thinking about it, how much work he was putting into it, and how obscene he was willing to be in order to be believable.
There was this one scene we shot when we'd shot for about a month, but I'd shot all the stuff in the police, and Vera (Farmiga, Damon's love interest in the film) and I hadn't worked together yet, except for one quick scene where we first meet. And, I said, 'Well, if he's introducing this sexual element into this, then it's fair game in the script and we have to reference it from Colin's standpoint.'
