Vikram comes to Mumbai
Two days after the reviews came out, the phone rang again. It was Abirami theatre. "Even as I began pleading, they told me they were shifting the movie to a bigger theatre. It soon became huge. Those were the most beautiful days of my life."
Vikram would watch every show with Bala. He first saw it while sitting among the audience. Later, he had to stand by the exit. Finally, he had to watch it from a cabin. On one occasion, he took his mother for a show. The crowd saw him and began shouting, 'Cheeyan Cheeyan' (the name of his character). He was mobbed. After the theatre employees came to his rescue, they asked "Are you crazy? Why would you come like this to a hall." Vikram replied, "I have been coming here all the time."
The actor thinks about the incident and smiles. "My mother enjoyed the film," he says. At the end, she said, 'What I saw inside was nothing compared to what happened outside.' That was Sethu."
