Vikram comes to Mumbai

He may be charged up, but things might not be all hunky-dory. Shankar's last movie dubbed in Hindi, Nayak -- with a plot somewhat similar to that of Aparichit -- was a flop. Vikram isn't perturbed though. "I thought Aparichit stood by itself," he says. "It is my first film in Hindi and has got a wonderful response. It has a theme that will work anywhere in India. Another point in its favour is the character and performance. It will shock the audience. It will work."

Don't miss: Have you met Aparichit?

The star probably has a fair idea of what works and what doesn't, considering 10 of his last 12 films have been mega-hits. One thing he is surprised by, however, is the response comedian Vivek got from the audience. While south Indians have never appreciated Johnny Lever's comedy, people beyond the Vindhyas will never be able to fathom how Kaundamani and Senthil can tickle the funny bone. "I know! It was a revelation to see his humour work here," he says. But he also puts this down to the fact that the audience was clued in to the movie.

Among the three characters in Aparichit, Vikram says he is closest to Remo. "I couldn't get out of that character's skin even after I came back home," he says. "Every time I passed a mirror, I would stop and adjust my hair (Remo is long-haired). It went to such an extent that I used to have huge fights with my wife and daughter over their missing hair-bands!"
