Bollywood and militancy!
Roja (1992)
Mani Ratnam's film is evidence that just one film can do wonders for more than one person's career.
Arvind Swamy and Madhu became household names with Ratnam's classy look at terrorism in Kashmir.
It was the story of a girl whose husband is kidnapped by militants who demand release of some terrorists in exchange for his life.
The film came close on the heels of the kidnapping of Indian Oil Corporation Executive Director K Doraiswamy by Kashmiri militants in 1991.
The news of kidnapping of Doraiswamy became national news. So did the film Roja.
The movie made you feel good about being Indian.
