Before you jump to a bizarre conclusion, lets clear things up: Jackie Shroff is not playing Johnny Depp's dad in the upcoming Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl.
This is just Shroff's new look for his latest film, Bhoot Unkle, and it seems like a peculiar film indeed.
A children's film is always welcome, and this Sumeit Sehgulz production -- with music by Baba Sehgal, no less -- tosses Jackie into a look impossible not to laugh at. Probably the desired effect.
From the posters, the film seems likely to be a version of Peter Ustinov's delightful Disney comedy Blackbeard's Ghost -- remember the Shah Rukh Khan-Naseeruddin Shah take, Chamatkar?
Those films were about a pirate's (okay, Naseer played a dead don) ghost helping out a helpless leading man, because he has to perform a good deed. In Bhoot Unkle, the hero seems to be a young boy.
After several forgettable supporting roles, its undeniably amusing to see Shroff in a role like this. And one must concede, Jaggu dada makes a pretty good pirate.
