Why Kareena wore no make-up for Omkara

July 26, 2006
Ajay Devgan, Omkara

In Shakespeare's play, I know what Othello was like. But in Omkara, we kept Shakespeare aside.

We started by digging out the locale and atmosphere of the film set in Uttar Pradesh, India. I was given a rough idea of the colour and locations.

I started thinking about earth colours for the film. I started going through the nuances of what Omkara is saying through his lines. I thought of him as a stone coming out of the earth.

So he is dressed in browns, tans and beige. I used white in his flashback scenes, where he a young college-going person in a place like Meerut. He was very innocent in his college days.

During my first meeting with Ajay, I showed him the textures of his outfits. He liked them, but he had a request. He wanted his personal tailor to stitch the outfits because he knew Ajay's bodyline. I didn't mind that.
