Thandie NewtonThe search for the new Bond girl is finally over.

 

Zambian beauty Thandie Newton has been chosen to play the sexy Vesper Lynd opposite Daniel Craig in the new James Bond flick. 

 

Craig too was reportedly 'very impressed' with her audition for the role in Casino Royale.

 

Thandie has been chosen above other screen sizzlers like Rachel Stirling, the daughter of former Bond girl Diana Rigg, Australian actress Rose Bryne (last seen in Troy), and the American Vera Farmiga.

 

Thandie, who shared screen space with Hollywood hunk Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible II, is happily married to scriptwriter Oliver Parker and has two daughters.

 

Bono's 'sexy' philanthropy

 

Losing out on last year's Nobel Peace Prize doesn't seem to have disheartened U2 frontman Bono.

 

BonoThe rocker turned up on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to unveil a partnership with a few iconic international brands -- including American Express, GAP, Converse and Giorgio Armani -- to sell a brand called Red to fight AIDS in Africa.

 

'This is really sexy to me. It is sexy to want to change the world,' E!Online quoted the 45-year-old Irish rocker as saying.

 

'I'm calling it conscious commerce for people who are awake, people who think about their spending power and say: "I've got

two jeans I can buy. One I know is made in Africa and is going to make a difference, and the other isn't. What am I going to  buy?"' he added.

 

It is the first time that the world's leading companies have made a commitment to channel one per cent of their profits from  sales of specially designed products to the Global Fund to support AIDS programmes for women and children in Africa.

 

Jim Carrey's number

 

Hollywood funnyman Jim Carrey has revealed that he is obsessed with the number 23, due to which he also agreed to star in the new thriller The Number 23.

 

Jim CarreyThe actor believes that 23 is responsible for a host of occurrences throughout history, and has even named his production company JC23.

 

'I've been obsessed with the number 23 for years, ever since a friend of mine said one day that he saw the number 23 everywhere.

 

Some of the most significant dates in history all add up to 23. [The bomb on] Hiroshima was dropped at 8.15, for instance,' he told Contactmusic.

 

'So after he started pointing it out, I immediately started seeing it too. It was like a disease. I became obsessed with it.

It ended with me talking to a friend who is a minister and he handing me a book from his pocket that turned out to be the  23rd Psalm: The Lord is my shepherd and I shall not want. It became my motto.' 

 

'The 23 thing happens to me about 10 times a day. I just happened to tell my friend about it, who then said he'd just read

a script called The Number 23,' he added.

 

Nicole Kidman spreads goodwill

 

After playing a United Nations employee in The Interpreter, actress Nicole Kidman seems ready for the real thing.

 

The global association have made the Oscar winner a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations Development Fund for Women.

 

Nicole Kidman'Nicole joins UNIFEM as we are celebrating our 30th anniversary to help raise awareness on issues of pressing concern to  women around  the world,' E!Online quoted UNIFEM Executive Director Noeleen Heyzer as saying.

 

According to a UN statement, the 38-year-old Australian star will work to advance women's rights and gender equality around the world, with a special focus on issues such as ending violence against women.

 

'I am honored that UNIFEM has asked me to serve as goodwill ambassador, and I look forward to a close, long-term relationship,' said Kidman at a UN news conference.

 

The actress will team with fellow UNIFEM ambassadors Princess Basma of Jordan, and Phoebe Asiyo, a member of the  Kenyan Parliament.

 

Kidman's goodwill post was previously held by Julie Andrews in the 1990s.
