Rediff Reviewer's Top Five in 2006

Golmaal

No other genre entertains more than a comedy!

Golmaal delivers all the masala and some excellent performances.

I was torn between choosing between Phir Hera Pheri and Golmaal. But PHP was fairly predictable sequel. Golmaal won hands down for the combined performances of Ajay Devgan (Gopal), Sharman Joshi (Laxman), Tusshar Kapoor (Lucky) and Arshad Warsi (Mahadev). Tusshar Kapoor excels as a mute guy, where countless others (read Farhan and Vivek in Pyare Mohan) can be simply boring. Gopal is a role written for Ajay Devgan who retains his trademark tough guy image while succeeding in being comical.

Paresh Rawal and Sushmita Mukherjee are a blind couple who eagerly await their grandson's return and accept the trio as one person who is their grandson. The numerous hilarious pranks in college and with the local goons will keep you engaged. And if you've nothing much to do this New Year's Eve beyond thinking about resolutions, this movie is a great way to just usher in a brighter 2007.
