'Mira's films are warm and passionate'

And how is Mira as a director? What do you like about her films?

In Mira's films, there is too much motion and something's happening all the time. She doesn't make subdued films. Her films are warm and passionate. She is a fragile and energetic director who keeps you on your toes all the time. And she's a great leader.

Before the shoot started, the entire cast came together and we had a reading of the whole script. She worked with everyone individually. Tabu and I would go to her office and she would give her inputs. We then worked on those. Once on the set, we had to follow the script as it was written without any improvisations.

In spite of so many interesting roles coming your way, what made you work in a film like Deadline, which wasn't even promoted?

I feel sad about what happened. They (the producers) did not promote the film. I hated the poster and had told them not to pitch the film as a thriller. It couldn't make people want to see the film. Most people did not even know the film released. It just taught me to be more cautious while signing films.

By not promoting a film, don't producers lose money?

I don't think so. The producer has sold the film to the distributor, who in turn has sold the film to exhibitors. So the distributor has got his money back. Now if he puts in more money then he's taking a risk, so it's the exhibitor who will suffer because people will not come to see the film. And the actors suffer because there will be a failure written against their names.
