Though Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalitha was invited for the wedding, she did not attend. Instead, she sent a special gift to the couple.
But her arch political rival, M Karunanidhi (right), came to bless the couple in the evening.
Another high profile visitor was the controversial Tamil politican Vaiko, whose book, From the Portals of a Prison, will be released on September 3 by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
