Amitabh Bachchan, who was admitted to Mumbai's Leelavati Hospital on Monday night following abdominal pain, is suffering from colitis, according to hospital sources.
The 63-year-old superstar underwent various tests, and was found to be "suffering from inflammation in the colon or the large intestine," hospital spokesperson Narendra Trivedi said.
The veteran actor is stable, Trivedi said. He added that the Bachchans' family doctor Jayant Barve will examine Amitabh on Tuesday night and decide whether he should remain in the hospital or be shifted home.
Amitabh has been kept under observation, and will be resting in the hospital, the sources said.
The actor was first admitted to Escorts Hospital in Delhi from where he was flown to Mumbai on Monday evening.
His son Abhishek Bachchan and Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh visited Amitabh at the hospital at Bandra, a western suburb of Mumbai.
