Padosan (1969)

Never one to turn away from a challenge, Dutt took on the role of a simpleton, aptly named Bhola, at the peak of his career.

He wore simple clothes, got a rustic haircut and played a character who had to be helped by his friends to woo his lady-love, Saira Banu.

This role couldn’t be more different than Dutt’s rugged characters in Mother India or Mujhe Jeene Do or the suave charmers he played in Gumraah and Waqt.

And it’s a testimony to his versatility that Dutt is remembered for etching an endearing character in this comedy classic.
