I saw him in a play; I think it was Hai Watan. After his performance, I went backstage to meet him. From then, on a wonderful friendship transpired. He would call me for each play, and I would go watch it. That's how our friendship grew.

After he joined films, I made Mashaal with him. It was our first film together and he had a very powerful role.

Amrish Puri was a very meticulous actor and wouldn't do anything lightheartedly. He examined all the minute facets of his character, so that he would know how exactly to perform.

He was a very disciplined actor, and never came late on the sets. He was cautious about his meals; he carried his own food and had light food.

It is a great loss to the industry and to me. He was a part of my family.
