Kathavaseshan
Director: TV Chandran

Kathavaseshan may not be a commercial success, but this TV Chandran film gives us hope that good films will continue to be made in Malayalam.

This is also actor Dileep's foray into artistic films, as producer. His earlier production was the slapstick comedy, CID Moosa, the kind of films he is famous for. It is heartening to note that a mimicry artiste showed interest in producing a serious film like Kathavaseshan.

Last year, T V Chandran made a film called Paadham Onnu Oru Vilapam for which Meera Jasmine won her first National Award. Paadham Onnu was a commentary on child marriages, a social evil prevalent in Kerala's Muslim society.

Kathavaseshan deals with another social malaise: suicide. Kerala has the highest suicide rate in the country. The protagonist of the film commits suicide when he finds it difficult to tolerate social injustice.
