Jamie Foxx took home the Oscar for Best Actor, and that surprised nobody. The actor picked up the best actor prize at all the major awards preceding the Oscars -- the Golden Globes, the BAFTAs and the Screen Actors Guild.
Foxx, born Eric Bishop, took the girlish name Jamie because lady comedians had then a better chance of being booked at nightclubs. The former comic was also nominated in the best supporting actor category for Collateral, where he played a bewildered Los Angeles cabbie up against a very evil assassin (Tom Cruise).
He won the Oscar for his brilliant performance in Ray, as the blind legend Ray Charles.
